인간의 몸은 기술과 어떻게 공존할 수 있을까? 

공존을 넘어 그 경계는 어디까지 허물어질 수 있을까?

국립현대무용단의 신작 〈내가 물에서 본 것〉이 오는 10월 17일부터 19일까지 LG아트센터 서울 LG SIGNATURE 홀에서 공연된다. 〈내가 물에서 본 것〉은 안무가 김보라가 선보이는 작품으로 보조생식기술(ART, assisted reproductive technologies)을 중심으로 현대 사회에서의 기술과 몸의 관계를 탐구하며 비판적 포스트휴머니즘과 페미니스트 과학기술학의 관점에서 인간의 몸을 재조명하고자 한다. 

작품의 제목 속 ‘물’은 일반적으로 떠오르는 물(water)보다는 물질과 문제(matter)의 개념을 담고 있다. 본 공연은 감각적으로 경험되는 물질로서의 몸을 탐구하며 그로 인해 발생하는 다양한 문제들을 무용을 통해 풀어나가는 과정을 보여준다. 물질(matter)로서의 몸은 기술과 얽히며 새로운 의미를 생성해내며 물이 흐르듯이 무용수들의 움직임은 끊임없이 변하고 재구성된다. 다층적 관계 속에서 몸은 기술의 영향을 받아 새로운 형상으로 변화해 가며 그 과정에서 발생하는 것들을 무용의 언어로 표현한다.

인간의 몸이 기술과 함께 재구성되는 그 과정은 때로는 혼란스럽고, 때로는 경이롭고, 낯선 아름다움으로 가득 차 있다. 이러한 낯선 아름다움은 무대 위에서 시각적, 감각적으로 구현되며 관객들에게 강렬한 인상을 남길 것이다. 

〈내가 물에서 본 것〉은 보조생식기술을 구성하는 물질적, 사회적, 정치적 요소들과 몸이 맺어 온 관계에서 비롯되었다. 하지만 난임 클리닉에서의 보조생식기술은 어떤 몸에서 실행되느냐에 따라 제각각으로 다른 양상을 띠기 때문에 이 기술이 실행되는 아주 구체적이고 특정한 몸에 관한 특수하고 상황적인 이야기를 펼칠 예정이다. 이를 통해, 기술과 몸이 함께 서로를 구성하면서 형성해 나가는 기술실행의 형상을 드러낼 것이다. 공연에 대한 자세한 정보는 국립현대무용단의 공식 홈페이지(https://kncdc.kr/)에서 확인할 수 있으며 티켓 예매는 LG아트센터 서울과 인터파크 티켓 홈페이지를 통해 할 수 있다.

How the Human Body Coexists with Technology Can it be?

How far can the boundary be broken down beyond coexistence?

Korea National Contemporary Dance Company's new work, 〈What I Saw in the Water〉 will be performed at the LG SIGNATURE Hall of the LG Arts Center in Seoul from October 17 to 19. 〈What I Saw in the Water〉 presented by choreographer Kim Bo-ra, explores the relationship between technology and the body in modern society, focusing on assisted reproductive technologies (ART), and seeks to reexamine the human body from the perspectives of critical posthumanism and feminist science and technology studies.

The "water" in the title of the work contains the concepts of matter and problem rather than the commonly mentioned water. This performance explores the body as a material experienced through the senses and shows the process of resolving various problems that arise as a result through dance. The body as matter is intertwined with technology to create new meaning, and the dancers' movements are constantly changing and reconstructed like water flowing. In a multilayered relationship, the body changes into a new form under the influence of technology, and the things that occur in the process are expressed in the language of dance.

The process of the human body being reconstructed with technology is sometimes confusing, sometimes wonderful, and full of unfamiliar beauty. This unfamiliar beauty is visually and sensually realized on stage and will leave a strong impression on the audience.

〈What I Saw in the Water〉 originated from the relationship between the body and the material, social, and political elements that constitute assisted reproductive technology. However, assisted reproductive technology in infertility clinics takes on different aspects depending on the body on which it is implemented, so it will tell a special and situational story about a very specific and specific body on which this technology is implemented.
