작년에 서울남산국악당과 SIDance의 공동사업이었던 ‘김경란류 권번춤 예맥: 반월(半月)’로 주목을 받았던 서울교방이 2월 21일과 22일에 서울남산국악당과 공동기획으로 ‘서울교방 6인전: 독공(獨功)독무(獨舞)’을 공연한다. 서울교방은 2010년 김경란 예술감독이 “근대의 예술 수련터 권번의 예맥을 법도로 삼고, 권번춤을 고제(古制)로 하여 전통춤을 오늘날의 춤으로 되살린다”를 모토로 삼고, 뜻을 같이하는 전통춤꾼들과 결성한 수련터전이자 네트워크 단체이다. ‘서울교방 6인전’은 서울교방의 대표 기획으로, 2022년 ‘다시 꽃은 피고 지고’를 첫 시작으로, 2023년 ‘여섯 개의 봄’, 2024년 ‘깊은 우물’로 공연하였다.

2025년 ‘서울교방 6인전’은 근대의 온습회(溫習會: 수련생들의 예술적 기량을 공개적으로 발표하는 행사)를 모티브로 하며, ‘독공(獨功)독무(獨舞)’가 부제이다. ‘독공독무’는 서울교방의 김경란 예술감독이 계승 및 안무한 여섯 가지 전통춤을 여섯 명의 동인이 자신의 춤으로 특색있게 빚어내는 춤판이다. 공연은 노문선의 〈민살풀이춤(장금도제)〉, 서진주의 〈구음검무〉, 진현실의 〈승무〉, 김미애의 〈논개별곡〉, 최주연의 〈교방굿거리춤〉, 김미선의 〈민살풀이춤(조갑녀제)〉으로 구성되며, 춤꾼들은 자기 삶과 춤을 독공(獨功)이라는 전통예술의 수련 과정으로 반추해 보고, 독무(獨舞)를 통해 내밀하게 펼쳐 보인다. 이번 공연에는 『독공(獨功): 홀로 닦아 궁극에 이르다』의 저자인 배일동 명창이 특별 출연하여, 도창(導唱) 사회자로서 공연의 의미를 밝히고 춤꾼들의 작품세계로 안내한다. 

김경란 예술감독은 “우리나라 전통예술의 수련과정인 독공은 〈바리데기〉 신화의 고행과 자각이라는 원형과 맞닿아 있으며, 이번 공연을 통해 치열하게 자기 연마를 거듭해 온 전통춤꾼들의 빛나는 무대와 만나 보길 바란다”라고 전했다.

Last year, the joint project between Seoul Namsan Gugakdang and SIDance, ‘Kim Kyung-ran-style Kwonbeon Dance Yemaek: Banwol (半月)’, attracted attention. Seoul Kyobang will perform ‘Seoul Kyobang 6-person Exhibition: Solo Performance and Solo Dance’ on February 21st and 22nd as a joint project with Seoul Namsan Gugakdang. Seoul Kyobang is a training ground and network group formed in 2010 by artistic director Kim Kyung-ran with the motto of “taking the tradition of modern art training ground Gwonbeon as a model and using Gwonbeon dance as an ancient form to revive traditional dance as a modern dance.” ‘Seoul Kyobang 6-person Exhibition’ is Seoul Kyobang’s representative project, and it started with ‘Flowers bloom and fall again’ in 2022, followed by ‘Six Springs’ in 2023, and ‘Deep Well’ in 2024. 

The 2025 ‘Seoul Gyobang 6-person Exhibition’ is based on the modern Onseuphoe (溫習會: an event where trainees publicly display their artistic skills) and has the subtitle ‘Dokgong (獨功) Dokmu (獨舞)’. ‘Dokgong Dokmu’ is a dance performance where six members uniquely create six traditional dances with their own dances, inherited and choreographed by Seoul Gyobang’s artistic director Kim Kyung-ran. The performance consists of Noh Mun-seon's 〈Minsalpuri Dance (Jang Geum Doje)〉, Seo Jin-ju's 〈Gu-eum Geommu〉, Jin Hyeon-sil's 〈Seungmu〉, Kim Mi-ae's 〈Nongaebyeolgok〉, Choi Ju-yeon's 〈Gyobang Gutgeori Dance〉, and Kim Mi-seon's 〈Minsalpuri Dance (Jo Gap-nyeoje)〉. The dancers reflect on their lives and dances as a process of training in the traditional art of Dokgong (獨功), and perform them intimately through solo dance. Master singer Bae Il-dong, author of "Dokgong (獨功): Reaching the Ultimate by Practicing Alone", makes a special appearance in this performance, explaining the meaning of the performance as the MC of the lead singing and guiding the dancers into their world of works.

Artistic director Kim Kyung-ran said, “The training process of our country’s traditional art, Dokgong, is in line with the archetype of the asceticism and self-awareness of the myth of 〈Baridegi〉, and I hope that through this performance, you will be able to see the shining stage of traditional dancers who have fiercely practiced themselves.”
