국립현대무용단(단장 겸 예술감독 김성용)은 오는 9월 6일, 국립아시아문화전당과 협력하여 지역상생 프로젝트 〈코레오 커넥션〉을 무대에 올린다. 이번 공연은 제주ㆍ광주ㆍ부산을 기반으로 활동하는 세 명의 안무가가 참여해 동시대 사회와 인간 존재를 탐색하는 세 편의 창작 작품을 선보인다.

〈코레오 커넥션〉은 2024년 국립현대무용단이 새롭게 시작한 기획 공연으로 지역을 기반으로 활동하는 안무가들의 실험적 시도와 동시대적 시선을 발굴하는 데 중점을 두고 있다. 서울 중심의 창작 환경을 넘어 지역이 지닌 문화적 감수성과 예술적 언어를 무대 위에 구현하는 것이 핵심이다. 올해는 국립아시아문화전당과의 협업을 통해 작품의 완성도를 높이고 지역 예술 생태계와 연계를 더욱 강화한다.

안무가 기은주의 〈사라진 초상〉은 개인과 사회가 겪는 상실의 감각을 무대화한다.‘나는 누구이며, 우리는 지금 어디에 있는가’라는 근원적 질문을 출발점으로 디지털 플랫폼과 스마트 기기 등 깊숙이 잠식된 일상 속에서 점차 희미해지는 자아를 이야기한다. 실재와 가상이 뒤섞인 경계 위에서 흔들리는 인간의 존재를 움직임으로 감각화 하며 잃어버린 것들을 되돌아보는 과정을 통해 회복과 치유의 가능성을 제시한다.

김현재의 〈사랑의 형태〉는 사랑을 단순한 감정이 아닌 인간 존재의 근본적 에너지로 바라본다. 신체의 진동과 흐름을 통해 사랑이 남기는 흔적과 파동을 시각화하며 그것이 지금의 ‘나’를 어떻게 구성해왔는지를 드러낸다. 관객은 무대 위 움직임을 통해 각자의 기억 속 ‘사랑의 형태’를 떠올리고 그것이 자신에게 남긴 흔적을 자연스럽게 마주하게 된다.

안선희의 〈두 겹의 몸〉은 신체를 물리적 기능과 구조, 은유와 감각이라는 이중적 층위로 해석한다. 두 층위 사이의 긴장과 교차를 움직임으로 풀어내며 몸에 새겨진 시간과 흔적을 보여준다. 단단하면서도 섬세한 움직임을 통해 ‘몸’이라는 존재 안에 숨어 있는 의미를 끌어내며 복합적인 신체의 결을 무대 위에 입체적으로 펼쳐낸다. 파편화된 몸의 서사를 통해 신체가 삶의 은유로 작동하는 순간을 드러내고 관객을 치유와 제의의 장으로 초대한다.

세 안무가는 각자의 시선과 언어로 현대사회의 단면과 인간 내면의 깊이를 탐구한다. 삶과 존재, 감각과 정체성이라는 본질적인 질문을 각기 다른 몸의 언어로 풀어내며 각 작품은 동시대를 살아가는 우리에게 날카로운 울림을 전한다. 국립현대무용단은 이번 프로젝트를 통해 지역 기반의 안무가들이 지속적으로 성장하고 각자의 지역성과 예술적 언어를 확장시켜 나갈 수 있는 기반을 마련하고자 한다.

Korea National Contemporary Dance Company (Director and Artistic Director Kim Seong-yong) will present the regional collaboration project "Choreo Connection" on September 6 in collaboration with the Asia Culture Center. This performance features three original works by three choreographers based in Jeju, Gwangju, and Busan, exploring contemporary society and human existence.

"Choreo Connection," a new project launched by Korea National Contemporary Dance Company in 2024, focuses on exploring the experimental endeavors and contemporary perspectives of regional choreographers. Its core goal is to transcend the Seoul-centric creative environment and embody the cultural sensibilities and artistic language of the region on stage. This year, a collaboration with the Asia Culture Center will enhance the quality of the work and further strengthen its connection with the local arts ecosystem.

Choreographer Ki Eun-joo's 〈Disappeared Portrait〉 stages the sense of loss experienced by individuals and society. Starting with the fundamental question, "Who am I, and where are we now?", it explores the gradual fading of the self in our daily lives, deeply immersed in digital platforms and smart devices. Through movement, it sensitizes the human existence, teetering on the edge of the tangled real and virtual, and suggests the possibility of recovery and healing through a process of reflection on what has been lost.

Kim Hyun-jae's 〈Shape of Love〉 views love not as a simple emotion, but as the fundamental energy of human existence. Through the vibrations and flow of the body, it visualizes the traces and waves left by love, revealing how they have shaped the present self. Through the movements on stage, the audience recalls the "shape of love" in their own memories and naturally encounters the traces it has left within themselves.

Ahn Sun-hee's 〈Two Layers of Body〉 interprets the body as a dual layer of physical function and structure, metaphor and sensation. It unravels the tension and intersection between these two layers through movement, revealing the time and traces etched upon the body. Through firm yet delicate movements, it draws out the hidden meaning within the very being of the "body," unfolding the complex texture of the body three-dimensionally on stage. Through the narrative of fragmented bodies, it reveals moments when the body functions as a metaphor for life, inviting the audience into a space of healing and ritual.

The three choreographers explore the cross-sections of contemporary society and the depths of the human mind through their own perspectives and languages. Each work explores essential questions of life and existence, sense and identity, through a unique body language, resonating sharply with us living in this era. Through this project, the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company aims to establish a foundation for regional choreographers to continue to grow and expand their regional identity and artistic language.

Through "Choreo Connection," the company plans to continue to revitalize the discourse on contemporary dance across the nation and build a more multi-layered dance ecosystem.
